De Grasse and Brown earn double podium at Diamond League stop in Oslo
Once again Andre De Grasse and Aaron Brown stood next to each other on the podium, this time with gold and silver respectively at the Diamond League event in Oslo, Norway on Thursday.
With Tokyo 2020 less than one month away, the Canadian sprinters secured a one-two finish in the men’s 200m event. Running against the wind, De Grasse stormed to a first place finish with a time of 20.09 seconds. Brown was not far behind, taking silver and posting a time of 20.34s. Isaac Makwala of Botswana finished in third position with a time of 20.61s.
De Grasse and Brown have both had a rather successful season. The two have achieved multiple double podium finishes, including at this season’s first two Diamond League events. At the stop in Gateshead, England, Brown and De Grasse won silver and bronze respectively in the 200m. Then in Doha, Qatar they stood next to each other once again in second and third.
Last weekend, at the 2021 Olympic Trials presented by Bell, Brown secured the men’s 100m and 200m national titles to take his third straight sprint double at trials.
Also in action at the Diamond League on Thursday was Andrea Seccafien, Sage Watson and Kieran Lumb. Racing the 5,000 for the first time in a month, Seccafien finished ninth overall. Watson finished in seventh in the women’s 400m hurdles and Lumb finished in 10th position in the men’s 3,000m event.
